The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is set to open bookings for its newly developed campground at Wycliffe Regional Park.
First announced in April 2024, the project aims to enhance visitor experiences and provide additional camping opportunities in one of the area’s largest parks.
Reservations will be available starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, through the RDEK website.
“We are excited to be able to offer this camping option to the public,” Jamie Davies, RDEK Recreation & Control Services supervisor, said, as reported by Cranbrook Daily Townsman. “This new campground will make it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy the amenities.”
Spanning 164 hectares, Wycliffe Regional Park is a hub for recreational activities. The park features an 18-hole disc golf course, hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, bocce and horseshoe pits, ball fields, and fire pits.
According to Davies, the addition of 20 unserviced campsites will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the park’s amenities while exploring the surrounding natural beauty.
The campground includes 12 sites designed for tents or small trailers up to 18 feet in length, and eight pull-through sites accommodating larger trailers up to 32 feet. This blend of accommodations ensures accessibility for a range of outdoor enthusiasts.
“This campground has been created as part of an effort to continue to offer an exceptional recreational experience to the public, provide more local camping options, and enhance local offerings,” Wycliffe Park Campground indicated on its website.
Scheduled to open on May 15, the campground will operate annually from mid-May through September, with stays capped at 14 nights per calendar year to maximize availability.
Wycliffe Regional Park’s location between Cranbrook and Kimberley offers a gateway to East Kootenay’s scenic landscapes. Visitors can take advantage of nearby attractions.
“We live in a beautiful part of the world, and these campsites will allow residents and visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery,” Davies said.
