Westcove Campground Opens Cross Country Ski Trails

A celebration to mark the official opening of the cross-country ski trails at Westcove (Alberta, Canada), situated near Vincent Lake, was held Sunday.

According to a report, representatives from the Lakeland Cross Country Ski Club and the County of St. Paul gathered to honor the collaboration that helped make the trails possible.

The St. Paul-based skiing club approached the County of St. Paul in late 2021 to discuss the possibility of constructing ski trails at the Westcove campground, which isn’t accessible during winter.

After the work was completed to groom and brush the trails, a system of about 10 km. of ski trails and areas specifically designed for snowshoeing was developed.

This winter escape is situated just 15 minutes north of St. Paul.

The day also included the opportunity to take part in a ski class designed for people who wish to improve their techniques or enhance their skills. Joad Clement from Bonnyville Nordic Ski Club taught the workshop.

Participants of the inauguration of the Lakeland Cross Country Ski Club Fun Ski were awarded medals, especially for the event, as per one of the many organizers and volunteers present, Joanne Lamoureux.

Over 50 people attended the festivities at Westcove that brought visitors from all over Lakeland.
