Southern Alberta Campgrounds Gear Up for a Bustling Summer Season Amid Rising Demand

As the warmer months approach, campgrounds across Southern Alberta (Canada) are getting ready for an influx of eager campers.

As per a report, with increased inquiries and bookings, campgrounds like Owl’s Nest in Coaldale and the recently rebranded KOA Lethbridge are investing in upgrades to accommodate the anticipated visitor surge.

Owl’s Nest Campground, which opened its doors in the fall of 2021, has experienced steady growth in popularity since its inception. The campground was established by Trevor Sampson and his family following the closure of the Coaldale municipal campground in 2015, seizing the opportunity presented by the rising interest in camping during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, Owl’s Nest is preparing for its busiest season yet. The management is upgrading the site’s infrastructure to ensure the best possible experience for campers. “We’re bringing a lot of sewer and water to some of the sites and upgrading the power there, just to keep up with anticipated demand for this season,” said Trevor Sampson, general manager of Owl’s Nest Campground.

Meanwhile, the Bridgeview Campground and RV resort is also gearing up for a lively summer season. The campground was purchased by Kampgrounds of America (KOA) last fall and is preparing for its inaugural summer under the new management. Staff members are optimistic that the KOA affiliation will attract more visitors, especially those from the United States.

Kathy Regehr, operational manager of KOA Lethbridge, expressed her excitement for the upcoming season. “We’re getting really excited for the new season as a KOA. We’re brand new here in Lethbridge that way, and so we’re excited about the possibility of a lot more traffic coming through the park,” she said.

As campgrounds start to fill up, Regehr strongly encourages those interested in reserving a spot to do so as soon as possible. We still have a fair bit of space available, but once those provincial parks and the national parks open up their reservations, we’re going to see a lot of activity,” she warned.

The increased interest in camping and the investments made by campgrounds in Southern Alberta point to a successful summer season, providing campers with an unforgettable outdoor experience.
