Edmonton’s Rainbow Valley Campground in Alberta recently launched a new offering to attract visitors who prefer a more comfortable camping experience. On May 12, the campground unveiled three dome comfort camping sites.
According to its website, Rainbow Valley Campground, managed by the Snow Valley Ski Club since 1994, has long been a destination for campers. The campground boasts more than 66 traditional camping sites and three new glamping domes.
These new sites have modern amenities, including furniture, air conditioning, heating, and a refrigerator. Each insulated dome measures eight meters in diameter and four meters in height and features a large picture window that offers views of the North Saskatchewan River valley.
Tim Dea, the campground’s marketing and communications manager expressed hopes for the new addition for outdoor enthusiasts. “There’s so many bird-watching areas around here, the walking trails. It’s just an atmosphere of comfort, comfort camping, and you’re still in the city. You’re not too far from home. You are kind of away from home by being in the midst of – you almost can’t tell you’re in the middle of a city,” he told CTV News Edmonton.
He also highlighted the campground’s unique appeal, characterized by mature trees and easy access to walking trails. He mentioned that while there are no immediate plans for further expansion, the goal is to get the sites running smoothly and then improve for future developments.
Cooking inside the domes is not allowed, and there is no running water within the domes. However, there is a bathroom nearby, and each site is equipped with propane for cooking.
The campground is open until September 30, with the domes expected to remain available beyond this date. Pricing for the glamping domes is $300 per night, with a minimum stay requirement of two nights.
The Rainbow Valley Campground’s introduction of comfort camping demonstrates the significant benefits of offering diverse camping options. By adding glamping sites with unique amenities, the campground has expanded its appeal to a broader audience. This approach caters to varying preferences. Glamping owners and campground operators can see the value in diversifying their offerings to attract different market segments, increasing occupancy rates, and repeated visits.
Moreover, the Rainbow Valley Campground’s phased approach to introducing these sites further highlights the importance of careful planning and incremental expansion for future developments.
