Crescent Falls to Welcome Visitors with Major Upgrades for Canada Day Weekend

Crescent Falls in western Alberta will welcome visitors again on the Canada Day long weekend after being closed since 2023. This location in the Provincial Recreation Area (PRA) has undergone significant upgrades to enhance visitor experience and safety.

Crescent Falls, which cascades 30 meters over two ledges, offers views of the Bighorn River Valley. Visitors can expect expanded parking areas, including a new section for large RVs.

Todd Loewen, minister of forestry and parks, expressed excitement about welcoming visitors back to Crescent Falls Provincial Recreation Area in time for the Canada Day long weekend.

“These additions will help visitors to safely access and enjoy the area’s natural beauty. Parks are for people and Alberta’s government will continue to invest in high-quality outdoor recreation opportunities,” Loewen said in a press release.

New and improved viewing areas have also been constructed, providing better vantage points. Additionally, increased signage and wayfinding systems have enhanced visitor safety and experience.

Other enhancements include enlarging the existing parking area and developing a new one for large RV vehicles. Access roads to the lower area have been upgraded, and a new pedestrian trail has been installed leading to the lower day-use area.

Michelle Swanson, councillor for Clearwater County, highlighted the Alberta Government’s reopening of Crescent Falls as a significant achievement for the region. She noted that the project enhances recreational opportunities, natural beauty, and accessibility, while also ensuring safer and more enjoyable visits for both citizens and visitors.

In addition to upgrades, a new vehicle crossing from the day-use area to the camping site and expanded day-use areas have been added. Visitors can also expect increased signage, additional toilets, and bear-proof garbage bins.

Dale Shippelt, the incoming deputy mayor of Rocky Mountain House, expressed enthusiasm about the reopening of Crescent Falls Provincial Recreation Area in time for the summer adventure season.

“This is a wonderful day trip destination for visitors and residents alike setting out from Rocky Mountain House. The provincial investment has only improved its accessibility and safety, making it a must-see destination if you are in the area,” Shippelt said.

The upgrades at Crescent Falls illustrate the importance of prioritizing visitor safety and maintenance in future developments. Enhancements such as expanded parking for large RVs, new pedestrian trails, and upgraded access roads demonstrate the value of making facilities more accessible and user-friendly. By focusing on these aspects, developers can create more attractive destinations and encourage repeat visits.
