NRMA Parks and Resorts Unveils New Turtle Sands Eco-Resort in Queensland

In a development for eco-tourism in Queensland, NRMA Parks and Resorts unveiled its latest nature-based accommodation, Turtle Sands, at the Mon Repos Beach.

The $28 million ecotourism project represents a significant investment in the region’s natural heritage and tourism potential. Turtle Sands is the culmination of nearly three years of planning and collaboration with stakeholders, including the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Bundaberg Regional Council, and the Port Curtis Coral Coast group.

The Queensland State Government and the Gidarjil Development Corporation have also played important roles in supporting this project.

According to an article published by Bundaberg Now, Minister for Tourism and Sport Michael Healy MP expressed enthusiasm for the project’s potential.

“We’re delighted to have played a helping role for the NRMA to develop what we believe will become an iconic new Queensland tourism experience,” Michael said. “Visitors from Queensland, interstate and overseas will experience a wonderful encounter with marine turtles thriving in their own natural environment, and year-round nature-based attractions in this very special part of the state.”

NRMA Parks and Resorts CEO Paul Davies also emphasized the resort’s commitment to conservation and guest experience. “Turtle Sands is set to offer our guests and NRMA members an incredible experience celebrating and supporting the conservation of marine turtles in their natural environment and creating a beautiful year-round beachfront resort easily accessible to everything the Bundaberg and Southern Great Barrier Reef has to offer,” Davies said.

The resort’s design and operations reflect a commitment to sustainability, aligning with global trends in eco-friendly accommodation. Turtle Sands utilizes a solar array to meet its energy needs, reducing its carbon footprint.

During the turtle nesting season from October to April, Turtle Sands implements its Turtle Protection Promise, a set of guidelines designed to safeguard the nesting turtles and their habitats. These measures include minimizing light usage after dark and restricting beach access to protect nesting sites.
