Caravan Industry Association of Australia Announces Leadership Transition

The Caravan Industry Association of Australia, the peak national body for the caravanning and camping industry, announced a leadership transition. Chair Grant Wilckens will conclude his tenure on the board following the next meeting in September. Donna Cocking, the director of experience holiday parks, has been endorsed by the board to succeed him.

Cocking brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She has served eight years on the board of the Caravan Industry Association of Western Australia, including three years as president. Additionally, Cocking has been a board member of the National Industry Association for eight years, currently holding the position of deputy chair.

According to a press release, her dedication to the industry has been recognized through numerous accolades, including life membership of the Caravan Industry Association of Western Australia.

During his time as chair, Wilckens has guided the industry through a “record of growth and unprecedented challenges.” Under his leadership, the caravan and camping industry has become a powerhouse of the national visitor economy, contributing over AU$27 billion in economic impact and 60 million visitor nights annually.

Stuart Lamont, chief executive officer of the Caravan Industry Association of Australia, praised Wilckens’ contributions, stating, “Grant’s impact on the industry has been profound, and the Association has benefited greatly from his strategic vision and purposeful leadership over the past seven years.”

Lamont emphasized that Wilckens fostered “greater collaboration” between state associations and the national body, and spearheaded the implementation of improved safety and compliance standards.

She acknowledged the industry’s “enormous potential” among Australian consumers. Cocking stated, “The caravan industry is an ecosystem, one which relies on consumer confidence, and all sectors of the industry, trade parks, and the supply chain, contributing to its success.”

She also recognized the current market headwinds and emphasized the National Board’s commitment to maintaining direction and stable leadership to navigate towards a “prosperous future for the sector.”

“I look forward to continuing to work hard with all stakeholders so that we all can benefit from a strong caravanning and camping industry,” Cocking said.
