Snow Peak Partners with Gunma Prefecture to Develop Mount Akagi Camping Destination

Snow Peak has announced plans to open a new campsite at Mount Akagi Park in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, with a targeted launch in spring 2026.

The project, developed in collaboration with local authorities, is part of an effort to revitalize the area surrounding the national landmark while expanding Snow Peak’s portfolio of outdoor destinations.

The Mount Akagi “Land Station” will be designed to accommodate various camping preferences, offering open campsites, power-equipped sites, pet-friendly areas, and mobile “JYUBAKO” campers.

The facility will also include a Snow Peak retail store, a tourist information center, a café, rental meeting rooms, shower rooms, coin lockers, and a multi-purpose plaza.

The store will stock the brand’s outdoor gear, apparel, and local souvenirs, while the café will feature a menu developed in partnership with local businesses using regional ingredients.

This latest development highlights Snow Peak’s ongoing strategy to blend commerce with outdoor hospitality.

By integrating a retail experience with a destination campsite, the company reinforces its brand presence while contributing to the economic growth of the region.

For industry professionals, this model demonstrates how experiential retail can enhance guest engagement and drive ancillary revenue.

The site’s high-altitude location will provide cooler summer temperatures and a scenic winter landscape, positioning it as a year-round attraction, according to a report by Hypebeast.

In a statement, Snow Peak emphasized the broader impact of the project, stating:

“Snow Peak will use the outdoor knowledge it has cultivated to contribute to the promotion and development of tourism in the region while providing new value to all people who visit Akagi Park.”

With the growing demand for immersive outdoor experiences, the Mount Akagi development could serve as a case study for campground operators looking to integrate premium amenities with brand storytelling.

The combination of retail, hospitality, and destination marketing reflects an evolving trend in outdoor hospitality that prioritizes both guest experience and regional collaboration.
