Farm-based glamping operator FarmCamps has been acquired by siblings Bram and Alette Bastiaansen, who plan to continue expanding the company’s network of farm-based accommodations across the Netherlands.
Founded in 2012, FarmCamps partners with family-owned agricultural businesses that host guests in luxury tents while offering experiences centered on everyday farm life. The company currently operates through a network of 23 locations throughout the country and reports approximately 150,000 guest nights annually.
The acquisition marks a new phase for the company as the new owners seek to grow the concept and strengthen existing locations. FarmCamps focuses on enabling agricultural entrepreneurs to diversify their businesses by incorporating recreational accommodations alongside their primary farming operations.
According to BioJournal, among the farms participating in the network are organic agricultural businesses, including De Breehoeve, an organic arable farm in Breezand, and Boerderij de Hooiberg, an organic dairy farm in Bladel. These businesses use tourism and recreation as part of broader diversification strategies that supplement agricultural income.
Under the FarmCamps model, participating farmers can add a hospitality component without assuming responsibility for all aspects of tourism development and management. The company invests in the installation of luxury glamping tents and assists operators with permit applications, site planning, and other development requirements.
Once accommodations are operational, FarmCamps manages marketing, reservations, pricing, and guest communications, allowing farmers to focus on agricultural activities and visitor engagement.
The model reflects a wider trend across Europe in which agricultural businesses seek alternative revenue streams to reduce exposure to fluctuating commodity prices, weather-related risks, and changing market conditions.
Agritourism and glamping have increasingly been viewed as complementary business activities that can generate additional income while helping consumers gain a better understanding of food production and rural life.
For outdoor hospitality professionals, the acquisition highlights continued investor confidence in experience-based accommodations and farm tourism. It also underscores the growing role of partnership models that reduce barriers to entry for landowners interested in adding glamping or other lodging products to existing operations.
As competition for unique outdoor experiences continues to evolve, concepts that combine accommodations with authentic agricultural experiences may remain an area of interest for operators seeking to differentiate their offerings and attract family-oriented travelers.
Bram and Alette Bastiaansen have indicated that further expansion of the FarmCamps network will be a priority in the coming years, with a focus on both adding new farm partners and strengthening the performance of current locations.
