Lac Ste. Anne County Reveals Expansion Project for Sangudo Riverside Campground

Lac Ste. Anne County in Alberta announced an expansion project to enhance the Sangudo Riverside Campground & Day Use Area, following the demolition of the former Sangudo Speedway. This initiative, directed by the County Council’s decision on October 12, 2023, aims to expand the campground’s capacity and improve the day-use area, making it more appealing and accessible to both residents and visitors.

According to a press release, the decision to dismantle the Sangudo Speedway Track and terminate the existing lease with Deep Creek Camping & Events, set to expire on December 31, 2023, is set to improve the area. The County’s plans include not only the removal of the track but also an environmental assessment to ensure the site’s suitability for public use. Initial steps such as surveying and clearing vegetation are scheduled.

The anticipated completion and opening of the revamped campground and day-use area is set for 2025.

In the meantime, the existing Sangudo Riverside Campground, situated in the picturesque Pembina River valley within the Hamlet of Sangudo, will continue to operate. For the 2024 camping season, it will offer 14 powered and water-supplied sites, along with three unserviced sites, in addition to a day-use area. To ensure safety and minimize disruptions, construction zones will be fenced off and secured from public access.

In addition to the Sangudo Riverside Campground, Lac Ste. Anne County operates three other campgrounds and an outdoor education center. For those interested in overnight stays, reservations for the campgrounds open annually on May 1.

Lac Ste. Anne County is a vibrant destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a wide array of activities that cater to every season. In the winter, the county transforms into a picturesque winter wonderland.

Beyond the cold season, Lac Ste. Anne County continues to captivate visitors with its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. The county’s natural landscapes, including its proximity to lakes and trails, suggest opportunities for hiking, biking, boating, and fishing during the warmer months.

Lac Ste. Anne County aims to attract more visitors and provide a more enjoyable outdoor experience for campers. For more information about the announcement, click here.
