Canberra Gears Up for Premier Outdoor Lifestyle Events Amidst a Surge in Caravanning and Camping Popularity

Traditional car shows might be on the decline, but the interest in lifestyle, caravan, and 4WD shows has skyrocketed in the post-COVID era.

The ACT region, known for its scenic beauty and outdoor activities, is hosting major outdoor lifestyle events this weekend. The Caravan and Camping Expo at Exhibition Park and the Murrumbateman Field Days are expected to draw large crowds.

Last year, despite inclement weather, nearly 16,000 enthusiasts attended the caravan show, and around 20,000 visited the field days. With the weather playing ball this year, these numbers are only expected to rise.

Lyndel Grey, the chief executive of the NSW Caravan Industry Association, points out the rise of various sub-groups taking to the road. Notably, single professional women have been a significant demographic.

The caravan industry’s transformation is also attributed to the accessibility of high-speed internet. Digital nomads and bloggers are now working remotely from their vans, blending work with wanderlust, as reported by the Canberra Times.

The evolution of camper designs has been nothing short of revolutionary. From the classic Kombi camper to luxurious models equipped with amenities like inbuilt coffee machines and Netflix, the options are endless. The variety of exhibitors at these events, ranging from 4WD roof-toppers to opulent Winnebagos, is a testament to this evolution.

While these events are a significant draw, Canberra offers a plethora of outdoor activities for residents and tourists alike. From the classic bridge-to-bridge loop around Lake Burley Griffin to the scenic trails of Black Mountain, there’s something for everyone.

The Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, a mere 40-minute drive from the city centre, is home to native Australian animals, including the beloved koala.

Namadgi National Park, on the northern edge of the Australian Alps, is a hiker’s paradise. Trails crisscross the park, waiting to be explored. The Centenary Trail, looping around Canberra, is another gem, offering glimpses of the city’s many highlights.

For those looking for a more relaxed experience, the National Arboretum, located just six kilometres from the city centre, is a haven. With 44,000 rare trees, it’s a place of tranquillity and beauty. And if you’re up for an adventure, a hot air balloon ride at sunrise is a must-do, offering unparalleled views of Canberra.

The ACT region is a hub for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether it’s attending lifestyle events or exploring nature reserves, there’s no shortage of activities. As the weekend approaches, Canberra is all set to host some of the biggest outdoor lifestyle crowd-pullers of the year, promising unforgettable experiences for all.
