The Madison Common Council unanimously approved a temporary campground to replace the one currently in Reindahl Park late Tuesday night, a report said.
The new site will be located at 3202 Dairy Drive.
The council was voting to declare a state of emergency due to COVID-19 violations and the unsafe conditions at Reindahl Park. This allows the city’s temporary campground to be built.
According to Jim O’Keefe (Director of City of Madison DPCED Community Development), anywhere from 50-60 people are staying at Reindahl Park each day.
Around 30 people will be accommodated at the new 1.8-acre campsite. This will not be enough space for all the people currently living at Reindahl Park. Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway is keen to find a second location. However, it’s not known where.
