A proposed campground and events facility in Browntown (Virginia) has been denied by the Warren County Board of Supervisors, as per a report.
Supervisors decided 4-0 at a meeting on Tuesday to reject the conditional-use permit application needed by Edwin Wright to operate a campground, and rural events center at 2905 Gooney Manor Loop in the South River District.
Supervisors conducted public hearings for each of both permit requests. One was for a commercial campground and rural events facility on The Dryer Farm that fronts Gooney Manor Loop. Wright has also submitted two similar permit applications for property that fronts Wellspring Drive.
According to the report, Wright withdrew the permits for the Wellspring Drive property before the special meeting. He also changed the original request by cutting the number of camping spots from 100 to 50.
Supervisors heard from various participants during the public hearing, many of them urged board members to reject the request. A lot of residents have spoken out against the idea. Some have raised concerns about increasing traffic from vehicles, water supply impact, noise pollution, and crime.
