The Bureau of Land Management Fillmore Field Office has temporarily closed the White Sands Campground located in Little Sahara Recreation Area due to significant damage from flooding. The closure is effective immediately and will remain in place until repairs can be made to the access road and campsites.
“The health and safety of staff and visitors in our recreation areas and facilities is the BLM’s number one priority,” said Cindy Ledbetter, Acting Fillmore Field Manager. “I commend the public for their voluntary compliance with this temporary closure that will allow our crews to complete the necessary road and campground repairs.”
The BLM is pleased to provide three other campgrounds and countless open spaces where visitors can camp within the recreation area. Off-highway vehicle users are advised to use caution when riding in the recreation area after storms due to increased hazards, such as ponding and deep washouts. The BLM encourages visitors to take all appropriate safety measures – including riding with a partner, using protective equipment, and following best practices for OHV safety.
BLM staff will continue to patrol the recreation area; however, visitors should call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency. Non-emergencies should be reported to the Juab County Sheriff’s Office at 435-623-1344.
