Thirty-four catalytic converters were taken from RVs at an RV dealership located in the southeast region of Austin, as per a report.
American Dream Vacations said that the converters were removed from customers’ vehicles in one night on February 2. The estimated damages are around $100,000.
Catalytic converter thefts are increasing all over the country, the report added.
Just last year, the Austin Police Department reported almost 900 crimes in the course of the year. In 2019, there were just 27 cases of thefts for the entire year. The crime rate in the nation rose 326% from 2019 to 2020.
Catalytic converters are highly valuable since they are made up of valuable metals—palladium and rhodium.
