A planned 176-site campground at Custer State Park (South Dakota) isn’t likely to get through the committee, Rep. Charlie Hoffman (R-Eureka) told a local report.
Hoffman is the co-chairman of the State Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.
“With the amount of negativity from all walks of life in South Dakota, I highly doubt this bill will make it out of committee and on to the Appropriations Committee where it will end up if passed,” Hoffman said in his email to KELOLAND News.
In another report last week, the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks has suggested a new campground with 176 sites to meet increasing demand, GPF division director Scott Simpson said. The campground would be located in Barnes Canyon near the wildlife loop road as well as the airport of the state park.
Hoffman revealed that he had over a hundred emails against any other campsites in Custer State Park.
The agriculture and natural resources committee is expected to discuss the campground proposal this week.
The GFP is looking for about $10 million in state funding to construct the campground.
Hoffman stated on January 23 that he’d received more than 100 emails to date against additional campsites within Custer State Park.
The natural resources and agriculture committee is expected to consider the campground proposal this week.
The GFP seeks around 10 million dollars in state funds to construct the campground.
