RVers May Cash Out 30% More on Fuel this Year

A person who owns an RV could pay 30% more on fuel this year compared to 2021, a report said.

An RVer can travel up to 4,500 miles per year on average. Last year’s national average national gas price was $3. As gas prices have risen over 60 cents in the last two weeks, the national average is now over $4 per gallon.

In the past years, the high gas prices have inflicted a huge impact on the economy, particularly the RV industry.

The high fuel cost and the 2008 recession severely affected the RV sector.  Elkhart County, Indiana even recorded the highest unemployment rate at one point.

However, according to an Elkhart Chamber of Commerce official, Elkhart’s economy holds better wages now compared to 2008. He also said that the effect of surging gas prices would not be as damaging.

“RVers are resilient, and while it may mess with the length of trips that they take, they are still RVers, and so as opposed to going 500 miles away, they may go to a state park somewhere,” said Levon Johnson, Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce President.
