The Department of Environmental Management announced Thursday that Burlingame State Campground would not reopen this week because of extensive damage caused by Tropical Storm Henri.

According to the DEM, about 350 trees were felled by the storm. It was initially planned to close the campground until at least Thursday. The department now expects to reopen it on Tuesday.

Anyone who made a reservation during the closure will receive a refund. For any questions regarding reservations, campers can contact the Burlingame Permit office at 401-409-1138 and Rhode Island State Parks Headquarters (401-667-6200).
