On Friday, a man was taken to Berks County Prison for writing bad checks after he purchased a travel trailer from a dealer in Adamstown in Pennsylvania, a report said.

After being arraigned before District Judge Stuart D. Kennedy at Reading Central Court, Kenton Miller, 35 was placed in jail in lieu of $35,000 bail

Brecknock Township police arrested him on Aug. 11 for writing bad checks, felony theft by deception, and theft by unlawful taking.

Lester Stoltzfus of Stoltzfus RV, 3280 Reading Road in Brecknock Township reported on July 27 that Kenton Miller and his spouse ordered a 2021 Salem trailer at a base cost of $31,500 back in April.

They paid a down payment of $500 and delivery was set for June 5.

The Millers took the camper home on June 17th. Kenton Miller wrote the check for $34,951.

The check was deposited by the business on June 21 and returned two days later due to insufficient funds.

Millers were contacted by the business and informed that the check had bounced.

Kenton Miller wrote a check for $30 plus the purchase amount on July 8. This was to cover the bank charges for the bounced check.

The second check bounced as well.

Denton Miller signed a third check on July 20, which was placed in an overnight box at the company. The check was for $34,996 and covered the purchase as well as the fees for the returned checks.

Martha Stoltzfus, co-owner of the business, contacted police a week later after another check was returned due to insufficient funds.

Officer Dale Winchester instructed her to write a certified note to the Millers informing them that the three checks had bounced and to also demand payment in full either in cash or with certified bank checks.

Winchester discovered that the business had not been paid by August 9. Winchester sent an arrest warrant to Kenton Miller. His wife was not charged.
