Juniata Township (Pennsylvania) residents expressed frustration towards the proposed 42-acre campsite along Piney Ridge Road.
According to a report, residents have requested the township supervisor to stop the proposed project for months. However, the issue has yet to be resolved, and residents are now asking for assistance from other officials.
The primary reason people are concerned is the limited availability of water. Residents depend on private wells for water, which is already challenging to find.
Raystown Family Campsite requires over 10 gallons of water to function. A resident experienced a water outage for nine days during a busy period at the campground. Residents said that the new site could use a similar amount of water or even more.
Carl Grove, an active spokesperson in the fight against the campground, said that he’s spoken to various departments, including PennDot, and the Department of Environmental Protection, for assistance on the issue.
“We’re just trying to get people to back us up,” Grove said.
“We’re trying to get public officials, DEP, someone to say ‘look the residents need someone to back them up here,’ And we’ve said this before if someone loses water, that’s too much there’s no reason,” Groove added.
The Huntingdon County Planning Commission also voiced its concerns. However, Grove said that the campsite has already begun advertising for the upcoming season.
Grove stated that he and other residents would continue to attend township council meetings until change happens.
The next township meeting of Juniata is scheduled for Tuesday, February 1.
