Madras City Council removed some bureaucratic red tape that had prevented a developer from building recreational vehicle parks on the 22-acre parcel west of Love’s Travel Stop, a report said.
This area is zoned for mixed-use employment. It currently includes day-care facilities and drive-thru businesses, restaurants, general offices, medical facilities as well as hotel/motel establishments, recreational and fitness, private schools, repair shops, but no RVs.
The proposal requested that RV parks be added to the definition.
RVs were allowed in Corridor Commercial areas only.
According to the proposal, RV parks will be allowed in more locations by changing the code.
“Having more options for temporary lodging will directly and positively affect the recreational needs of city visitors.”
Council members approved the modification to the zoning on August 24 to allow RV parks at this location as well as other mixed-use employment areas.
Juniper Crossing is a proposed park that will be 8.3 acres in size and includes 55 hookups, a campground area, and 14 yurts as well as 21 cabins.
Juniper Crossing eventually will have 64 cottages. 15 cottages will be rental units. The other 49 cottages will be private urban cottages.
These plans include additional storage for 92 RVs.
