Pavilion, New York locals Jesse and Jolene Coots are working on their Lokee-Hikee Campgrounds project at 10156 Perry Rd., Pavilion.

According to a report, the couple’s plans for the 110-acre piece of land require a special use permit, engineering, land surveys, drilling for wells, and securing town board approval. Ultimately, it’s about the Coots doing everything in their capacity to make sure the campground will be environmentally sound and neighbor-friendly.

Coots told a local report that “Lokee-Hikee” is a play on words that connotes a sense of low key relaxation with high key fun, energy, and friendliness.

If approved, the first phase for the campground involves building 80 campsites, a registration building, bathroom and shower facilities, a pool, and a stocked pond. The campground will be opening job availabilities, especially to the youth who want to enrich their experience.

As much as the owners want the process to be smooth sailing, the special use permit is pending as the planning board asked the applicants to fulfill the application again.

“We have really gone through the steps of making sure we’re doing everything right legally (with all entities involved). They have been fantastic to deal with. It’s our engineering that our Town of Pavilion is obviously involved in and wants to make sure we’re doing everything right,” Coots said.

Plans for another hearing are set for today at 7 p.m., happening at the Pavilion Town Hall, 1 Woodrow Drive, Pavilion.
