After a bear attacked her on a Lake Tahoe campsite, a woman is now in recovery, a report said.

A bear bit the 25-year old woman while she was camping on Nevada’s side of Lake Tahoe.

According to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), authorities continue to try and capture the bear after the woman accidentally shocked the bear at her campsite.

She claims she was unaware that the bear was fifteen feet away while she was sitting at the picnic table. It broke into the cooler of the camping group, according to reports.

NDOW believes that the bear was probably protecting the food it just found inside the cooler.

The report mentioned Jake Kreamer, Game Warden Captain, who stated, “we were very lucky that this ended in some torn pants and an injury to the leg. Being between a bear and its food is a dangerous place to be.”

Staff at NDOW noticed a marked increase in these encounters over recent years. Bears around Tahoe Basin have become more habituated to humans and food sources, the report added.
