Several cases of E. coli O157 infection have been identified by the Mississippi State Department of Health associated with the use of the swimming pool and/or splash pad at the Jellystone Park Camp-Resort Yogi on the Lake, Pelahatchie, a report said.

All cases that have been identified so far were determined to have exposure dates from July 30th to August 1st. Additional exposures could have occurred between August 9 and 10, 2021, the report added.

The splash pad and pool were closed on August 9, 2021.

MSDH continues to investigate any further cases. Jellystone Park Camp-Resort Yogi on the Lake has agreed to cooperate with the investigation.

According to the report, Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a potentially fatal condition that can lead to severe complications. The symptoms of HUS usually appear around a week after they first start to improve. In some cases, it can cause kidney failure. HUS may be detected early on by fatigue and decreased urination.

E.coli infection symptoms can be severe. Infection can usually be diagnosed within three to four days of exposure. The duration of the illness can range from one to 10 days. When water becomes contaminated from an infected person’s diarrhea or fecal matter, other swimmers can then infect the water and become infected. Transmission from person to person can also occur, the report added.

Individuals who have been swimming at Yogi on the Lake, Pelahatchie, between July 30th and August 9th should be aware of symptoms such as stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. If you have any symptoms, consult a healthcare provider immediately and inform your provider, the report said.
