DETROIT LAKES – Becker County on Tuesday has given the green light to Elbow Lake RV Park.

After tabling the request in July, the commissioners have finally approved the construction of the seasonal RV park after being hesitant to approve the request citing the density of units, lack of a firm business plan, and wanting additional community input.

It will have 40 units and 6 slips for boats. There will also be a full-time staff next to the Jolly Fisherman resort.

Joey Stahl, Amenia, N.D. applied for the conditional usage permit. He provided additional information and a revised proposal. This included concessions to alleviate concerns.

Nevertheless, the permit was denied to more than 60 residents of the lake. Reese Peterson, president of the Big Elbow, Juggler and Little Bemidji Lake Assocation, stated that the main reason to deny the request is because of its proximity to an existing resort, the island’s narrowness, lack of a road and the potential for uncontrollable wells.

The RV park will require a full-time staff and will not permit day docking, jet skis, ballast boats or wake boats.
