The Mecosta County Park Commission of Michigan is planning to add more campsites to School Section Lake Park, a report said.
The park board has previously approved a budget of $40,500 for engineering design and also approved an additional $18,000 during its meeting this week.
“The park commission originally hired Prein and Newhof at a cost of $40,500 to provide preliminary engineering, utility assessments, and design of the campsite additions,” Mecosta County Park supervisor Jeff Abel said.
“Since that time, the scope of the project has changed to include relocating the RV dump station, evaluating the addition of six host camper sites away from the other campsites, and upgrading existing campsites 135-167 to 50-amp electrical from the current 30-amp and adding septic hook-up onto those campsites.”
Abel explained to the board that the approval of the additional $18,000 was needed to proceed with the project. It could cost approximately $1.5 million.
“They have provided us with a cost estimate for the project in its entirety, with the additional campsites coming in at just under $1 million on the construction, and the electrical and septic coming in around $450,000,” Abel said.
“At this time, if we were to move forward with everything, the cost would be around $1.5 million.”
The expansion plan will eventually need approval from the county board of commissioners.
School Section Lake Veteran’s Park is closed for the season and is scheduled to reopen (weather permitting) Friday, May 6, 2022.
