The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention is currently investigating an outbreak of gastrointestinal disease at Ellsworth campground, a report said.
Robert Long, the spokesperson for the Maine CDC, said that 32 people have reported gastrointestinal problems at Patten Pond Camping Resort. These people were from 32 campsites of the said resort.
Officials have yet to identify the cause of the illness. The campground reported that E.coli was detected in its drinking water.
E.coli is a type of bacteria belonging to the E.coli family. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it can cause diarrhea and other digestive distress.
Clean drinking water is provided by the campground to all camp residents. The Maine CDC is also working with the campground to identify the source of illness and ensure that no other campers get infected.
