Victims of the recent tornado event that ravaged Kentucky last weekend have found refuge at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park and other state parks.

“I’m very blessed that I have a place that I can come [to] that has electricity,” Ladonna Cooper, one of the victims, told a local report.

The Dawson Springs resident and four family members have made the campground their oasis.

“We hope in this time of real emergency for these families, [that] we can provide them some tranquility from everything that’s going on,” Kentucky State Parks Deputy Commissioner Will Adam said.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has evacuated victims to seven state parks.

At a Monday press conference the state’s governor said that the verified death toll in Kentucky was now 74 after a historic tornado outbreak, with a minimum of 109 people not being identified across the state.
