Dad, Girlfriend Arrested After Incident at Indiana Campground Leaves Toddler in Critically Unstable Condition

An Indiana couple has been detained after a hospital contacted police and reported a child with serious injuries, which is not consistent with the account of the child’s father and his girlfriend.

Derek Pierce, 31, and Dakota McHenry 25 are accused of neglecting an infant that caused serious bodily harm as well as obstruction of justice. Pierce is also charged with a crime of domestic battery on children younger than 14 years old, causing serious bodily injuries.

Pierce and McHenry transported the toddler and brought the child to Cameron Hospital in Angola Friday evening. The hospital first contacted the police, their investigation revealed that the child’s injury took place in the HI-VUE campsite close to Lake Gage in unincorporated Steuben County.

The information was not released.

They’re being held with no bond in Steuben County Jail. Steuben County Jail.
