Shawnee National Forest Campgrounds Announce Seasonal Closure

On Monday, December 6, Forest Service announced Shawnee National Forest‘s seasonal closures that will be in effect throughout the forest.

The closure of the forest roads for the season will begin on Thursday, December 9.

As per the Forest Service, campgrounds closing for winter on Wednesday, December 15, include Red Bud Campgrounds (Bell Smith Springs), Pine Ridge Campgrounds (Pounds Hollow), Tower Rock, and Johnson Creek Campgrounds.

Forest Service said most campgrounds will reopen on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, except for the Tower Rock Campgrounds, which will open on Sunday, May 1.

The campgrounds open all year are Pharaoh Campground (Garden of the Gods), Camp Cadiz, Oak Point Campground (Lake Glendale), and Pine Hills Campgrounds.

A free motor vehicle use map is available at the Harrisburg and Vienna office. You can also go online to find all of the Forest Service roads and the exact closure dates.
