San Francisco-based Hipcamp has purchased UK-based travel agency Cool Camping, a document shows.
According to a report, Hipcamp has been seeking international expansion and even acquired the Australian company Youcamp in 2020.
Hipcamp has purchased the entire shares of Cool Camping’s parent firm Tripadee from previous investors. Jonathan Knight, who co-founded Cool Camping as a printed guidebook brand in 2006, and later transformed it into a travel tech company, sold his shares to Hipcamp, as per filings.
Just this summer, Cool Camping added about 5,000 spots to pitch tents. It benefited from a 2020 UK law that increased to 56 days the amount of time that landowners can permit guests to build temporary campsites on their properties.
Hipcamp remains the top-funded camping travel agency within its category. Its investors comprise Andreessen Horowitz, Benchmark, Bond Capital, and Index Ventures.
