A well-known trail and campground in Hawaii‘s Waipi`o Valley will be closed to allow routine maintenance later this month, a report said.
Muliwai trail and Waimanu campground will be closed from November 15-18 to enable DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife’s (DOFAW) regular maintenance of the area. This maintenance will include maintaining the correct functioning of the Clivus composting toilets, litter collection, removal of fallen trees, clearing landslides, as well as the use of herbicides to control the spread of invasive plants.
The trail and the campground are closed and maintained at least four times per year. Check out the campground’s website to get the most current information regarding the opening.
The road leading to Waipi`o Valley is also closed every third Wednesday of the month because of ongoing rockfall mitigation efforts from about 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Hikers going to or leaving the Muliwai Trail and Waimanu Campsites are not permitted to use the roads these days.
