Commissioners from Forsyth County approved expanding efforts at Shadygrove Campground in order to attract visitors, a report said.
The commission voted Aug. 24, to adopt a new master plan for the 110-acre site at Allyn Lane Memorial Way on Lake Lanier.
Jim Pryor, Parks and Recreation Director, stated that the county has made continuous improvements to the facility since it was taken over by the U.S Army Corps of Engineers in 2006. He said that major upgrades take time because they must be approved by Mobile’s regional Corps office.
Pryor stated that the Corps will be able to approve the updated master plan of the site as it stands, eliminating the tedious process the county had been going through.
The county will approve each major expense.
Shady Grove Campground currently has 110 campsites available for groups, tents, and RVs. There is a beach, a swim area, a boat ramp with a dock, trails, and a children’s playground.
The county commissioners unanimously approved the revised master plan and submitted it to the Army Corps of Engineers.
The commissioners also approved the expansion of Timberline Glamping Company’s glamping areas.
Timberline Glamping Company was able to book at all sites at 100%, despite the pandemic. National Geographic reached out and featured them in their top 500 campgrounds across all 50 states.
The expansion of 13 sites was approved by the commissioners. The vote was 5:0. The campground’s aesthetics are maintained at 10% of the revenue. Pryor stated that they anticipate doubling this year’s $70,000 revenue with expanded sites.
