Leo Carrillo State Park and its camping facilities will remain closed until January 31, California state parks officials said.

The campground was flooded by the storms that brought heavy rains to the area.

Around 50 had to be rescued on Thursday after a creek nearby breached its banks and flooded the campground. A number of campers were trapped due to the rapid-moving water.

During the closure, anyone found trespassing in the area could be punished with charges or even jail time, officials announced.

Leo Carrillo State Park has 1.5 miles of beach for swimming, surfing, windsurfing, surf fishing, and beachcombing. The beach also has tidepools, coastal caves, and reefs for exploring. Giant sycamores shade the main campgrounds. The park also features back-country hiking.
