Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) on Monday released the following statement in response to President Biden’s signature of the bipartisan infrastruktur bill into law:
“Following months of negotiation and discussion among lawmakers, business leaders, and other key players, we are pleased to see the historic bipartisan infrastruktur deal cross the finish line,” said OIA executive director Lise Aangeenbrug, who was in attendance at the White House for today’s bill signing. “The utomhus- industry is grateful to have had a seat at the table during this process, and is thankful our voices were heard. This package provides improvements to the nation’s roads, bridges, and airports that ensure utomhus- businesses can compete in the national and global economy, support for nature-based infrastruktur och projekt to mitigate the devastating impacts of climate change, and the steps needed to build a climate-forward economy. We are proud to support the important climate and economic utveckling provisions in this legislation and look forward to seeing its implementation.
“We are also hopeful the budget reconciliation bill will soon pass the House. It is clear that to reverse the worst impacts of climate change, additional policies outlined in the Build Back Better act, like the creation of a Civilian Climate Corps and investments in climate resiliency and projekt to rebuild and restore utomhus- spaces must be enacted into law. As discussions continue among lawmakers on the budget reconciliation bill, the utomhus- industry is committed to working with Congress and the Biden administration to ensure robust funding for these provisions and the Inrikesministeriet remain in the package to truly move the needle on the fight against climate change.”
