July Fourth weekend, traditionally the busiest camping weekend of the year, marks the start of what the Texas Association of Campground Owners expects to be a busy summer camping season across Texas, according to the association’s executive director and CEO, Brian Schaeffer.
Schaeffer said Texas offers a wide range of camping experiences through independently owned campgrounds, RV parks and resorts throughout the state.
The association operates TexasCampings.com oraz TexasGlampingResorts.com, which provide information on privately owned camping destinations that may not be listed on government-operated tourism websites.
“We’ve got every kind of campground imaginable across the great state of Texas,” Schaeffer said.
Among the destinations highlighted by the association is Jamaica Beach RV Resort in Galveston. The resort features pull-through RV sites and multiple water-based amenities, including a beach-entry swimming pool, a family pool, an indoor pool, splash pads and a 700-foot lazy river.
Additional amenities include an 18-hole miniature golf course, nature trails, pickleball courts and an adults-only infinity spa and sauna. Food options on-site include Hunt Brothers Pizza and food trucks.
The association also pointed to Oakdale RV Resort & Motor Court in Glen Rose, a campground and motor court that opened in 1925.
According to the park’s owners, the property was built around the 330,000-gallon Oakdale Plunge swimming pool, which was the largest swimming pool in Texas at the time. The park offers RV and tent sites as well as rental accommodations.
Oakdale RV Resort & Motor Court is among a limited number of private RV parks listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The property includes a historic dance hall that can accommodate up to 400 people and is used for family reunions, weddings, quinceañeras, RV rallies, concerts and dances. Other amenities include a fire pit, outdoor stage, swimming pool grill and dog park.
Another park highlighted by the association is Twin Oaks Resort in Alleyton, located about 60 miles west of Houston. The 168-acre property offers lakeside fishing, Grand Prix go-kart tracks and outdoor dancing beneath mature oak trees.
Originally a ranch owned by former Houston Rockets owner Charlie Thomas, the property has since been converted into an RV resort and wedding venue with its own dance hall.
The association also promotes its 2026 RV Travel & Camping Guide to Texas, which is supported through advertising from campgrounds, RV resorts, RV dealers and Platinum Cottages, a manufacturer of park model RVs commonly used as rental accommodations at campgrounds and RV resorts.
The free guide is available through TexasCampings.com in both print and digital page-turning formats. Based in Crowley, the Texas Association of Campground Owners represents campgrounds, RV parks and resorts throughout Texas.
