ombord has completed a Pre-Series A funding round, bringing its total capital raised to $13 million as the company advances development of its extended-range electric travel trailer ahead of planned mass production.
The Southern California-based startup said the financing round was led by Ondine Capital and Llama Ventures. The funding will be used to support the company’s next phase of growth, including product validation and refinements of its electric travel trailer prototype.
“Aboard was founded to bring automotive-grade design and engineering to the travel trailer category, so people can travel with the reliability, comfort, and confidence they expect from a modern vehicle without being limited by hookups or complicated RV systems,” Jiangtao Lyu, founder of Aboard, said in a pressemelding.
Lyu said the company’s first travel trailer is now in “advanced prototype and validation” as Aboard invests in production readiness and expands its presence within outdoor recreation communities.
According to the company, its first product is an extended-range electric recreational vehicle travel trailer designed as a fully integrated system combining energy, mobility, and living functions into a single platform.
The trailer is intended to provide an electric-powered travel experience with built-in energy independence, towing and control systems, automated comfort functions, and automotive-grade manufacturing processes.
The company said the trailer incorporates high-precision stamped body and door systems typically associated with vehicle manufacturing. Aboard described its approach as an effort to simplify the travel trailer experience through integrated engineering and design.
Aboard plans to formally launch publicly on May 29 during Outside Days in Denver. The event includes a two-day outdoor industry conference and a three-day festival where the company will showcase its travel trailer.
The company said attendees will be able to tour the trailer, meet members of the Aboard team, and learn about product configurations. Pricing for the travel trailer is expected to start at $80,000.
Aboard said its team has roots in automotive engineering and is focused on applying vehicle design principles to mobile living products. The company is beginning with its integrated travel trailer platform as it develops products aimed at modern mobile living.
