Gas Prices Keep Dropping But Is Omicron Playing the Grinch?

Benzina demand surged last week, buoyed by increased pre-vacanza la fiducia dei consumatori. But fears of the COVID-19 omicron variant’s economic impact may threaten future global oil consumption.  As a result, pump prezzi fell again last week as greggio oil & gas prezzi wobbled—neither rising steadily nor falling rapidly. The national average for a gallon of gas dipped three cents to $3.30.

“A recovering economy coupled with strong employment is leading to increased demand for benzina,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “This demand increase should drive pump prezzi higher, but it’s been blunted by the wavering price of greggio olio."

According to recent data from the Energy Information Administration (VIA), totale interno benzina stocks decreased by 700,000 bbl to 218.6 million bbl last week. Meanwhile, benzina demand increased from 8.96 million b/d to 9.47 million b/d. Typically, growing demand and tight supply would support rising pump prezzi; however, fluctuations in the price of greggio oil have helped to put downward pressure on prezzi. La settimana scorsa, greggio prezzi crept above $70 per barrel and if oil prezzi continuare a salire, pompare prezzi probabilmente seguirà l'esempio.

As of December 20, the national average of $3.30 is 11 cents less than a month ago and $1.09 more than a year ago.

Dinamiche del mercato petrolifero

Al termine della sessione formale di negoziazione di venerdì, WTI è diminuito di $ 1.52 per attestarsi a $ 70.86. Greggio prezzi declined last week due to growing market concerns that the omicron variant of COVID-19 will lead to a decrease in demand as governments around the globe increase measures to curb transmission rates. Additionally, greggio prezzi declined despite VIA’s new data revealing that total domestic greggio stocks decreased by 4.6 million bbl to 428.3 million bbl. The current stock level is 14.4 percent lower than mid-December 2020. For this week, greggio prezzi could drop further if omicron concerns persist.
