LEMKI Robotix and Iscale3D Launch First 3D-Printed Camper from Recycled Materials

A Ukrainian-German collaboration has achieved a milestone in sustainable mobile living with the creation of Discover 3D, a 3D-printed mobile homemade primarily from recycled materials.

LEMKI Robotix and iScale3D, the companies behind the innovation, developed proprietary equipment and software to produce the mobile unit using Fused Granulate Fabrication (FGF) technology.

According to their press release, the mobile home offers durability, thermal insulation, and transportability while being 80% recyclable.

Equipped with autonomous batteries and solar panel compatibility, Discover 3D supports off-grid living. Smart home features allow users to monitor and control parameters like temperature, water levels, and battery charge.

The design caters to families of three, combining modern aesthetics with functional outdoor living accommodations.

Weighing just 250 kg with walls as thin as 9 mm, the camper incorporates soundproofing and thermal insulation features.

Constructed from recycled plastic bottles and fiberglass, the camper is fully recyclable and designed to withstand rugged outdoor conditions. Its compact and aerodynamic design facilitates easy towing, while the interior maximizes functionality with sleeping, cooking, and storage areas.

LEMKI Robotix and iScale3D highlight the environmental benefits of their approach, noting that the use of recycled materials aligns with circular economy principles. Each camper diverts approximately 7,500 plastic bottles from waste streams, addressing global pollution challenges.

The process uses an eco-friendly composite material made from recycled polypropylene and fiberglass.

The 3D printer, built on a KUKA robotic platform, features a print area of 3200 mm x 3200 mm x 8000 mm, enabling the production of large-scale, high-precision structures.

LEMKI Robotix has been active in robotics and CNC technology since 2014. Initially focusing on 3D printing for concrete, the team shifted to composite materials in 2021, citing their adaptability for various applications.

In addition to showcasing advanced 3D printing capabilities, the companies intend to scale up production, aiming for affordability and sustainability. By leveraging composite materials, the technology reduces production time and costs, potentially broadening access to environmentally friendly mobile homes.

With plans for mass production and further technological development, the companies envision a future where sustainable construction and outdoor living solutions become accessible to a wider audience.
