Tiffin Motorhomes Closes Winfield Facility to Consolidate Production in Red Bay

Autocaravanas Tiffin is shuttering its Class C manufacturing plant located in Winfield, Alabama. The recreational vehicle builder will transition the assembly of those units to its primary operations center.

Moving forward, the production of the brand’s Class A, Class B, and Class C models will take place exclusively at the company’s facility in Red Bay according to an article by al.com.

A state WARN notice filed on Feb. 5 indicated that the consolidation would result in 139 layoffs.

Despite this filing, a company representative stated that every worker at the Winfield site was offered an opportunity to relocate.

“Some of those employees chose not to take the transfer position, but many of them did and are now working on Class C operations in Red Bay,” the spokesman said.

This facility closure follows a recent leadership departure, as Leigh Tiffin stepped down as president of the organization in February.

At the time, he stated the move was to “pursue an important personal career opportunity.”

He subsequently told interviewers that his exit was independent of the manufacturer’s overall performance and unrelated to the company’s ownership under THOR Industries, which acquired the brand in 2020.

The former executive is the grandson of company founder Bob Tiffin and the son of Van Tiffin.

Prior to his corporate tenure, he played as a placekicker for the University of Alabama football program from 2006 to 2009, competing on Nick Saban’s inaugural national championship squad.

For the recreational vehicle manufacturing sector, centralizing assembly lines demonstrates how legacy brands are actively adjusting their physical footprints to optimize workforce and facility costs.
