The Woodlawn Regional Park (Saskatchewan) is set to host its fifth annual Festival of Lights at the Souris River campground.
The celebration will begin on December 17 and will continue through January 8, 2022. The lights will illuminate the sky at dusk every night and will be shut off in the overnight hours.
According to a report, 51 entries have already been received, an increase from 41 entries in the previous year. Thirteen entries this year are new, and there is still time for anyone to take part.
Woodlawn Business Manager Maureen Daoust said the participants are developing designs for their exhibits.
“They’re invited to come and start decorating at any point in time here. They have to have their sites ready by December 14th, so we can put our timers in and do a couple of test runs before the Friday kickoff,” said Daoust.
Churches, non-profits, businesses, as well as families and friends, are anticipated to take part this year. With a plethora of new businesses established in the community over the last 16 months, many people are excited to participate in the celebration.
The festival is free. However, there’s a donation area for those who wish to contribute to balance the cost of the event.
This year, guests can get out of their cars and explore the park. The public was asked to stay in their vehicles as they watched the lights during the 2020-21 celebration.
Around three thousand vehicles have visited the park to attend the festival in the past.
Daoust stated that there is no limit on the number of entries they can handle. They have the capacity in their current camping area to accommodate more, and should they run out of space in the future, they could move some to another location.
