A dog owner is raising awareness after claiming her tiny Havenese was fatally attacked by two large unleashed dogs on Island View Beach in Central Saanichton, British Columbia, on Monday, a report said.

Dianne Donohue was walking her two tiny dogs along the beach close to the water at 3:45 p.m. when she saw two larger dogs coming towards her.

“It was horrific. I literally was fighting off two dogs in the water. I had to get in the water, [I was] ripping at the dogs, and they were just ripping at my small dog.”

As she walked to her car, she was approached by someone who might be the dog’s owner. The woman asked whether the dog was okay. She then examined the dog and commented that there was no blood, which means the dog must be okay, said Donohue.

However, after bringing her dog Daisy to a vet clinic, the dog died eight hours later.

Donohue reported the incident to CRD Animal Control, which confirmed to the local news that it was investigating the incident and on top of the list.

The CRD released a statement asking anyone who might have seen the attack to call them at 250-474-3351.

As per CRD Animal Control, dogs are required to be leashed within the campground area of the park. They must also be always under control at all times.
