A 40-site glamping ground is being proposed as part of a mixed-use project in Britannia Beach (British Columbia), a report said. The development will not feature single-family homes.

Glamping or glamorous camping gives the luxury camping experience with more lavish amenities and comforts.

Tiger Bay Development Corporation (formerly Taicheng) has applied for rezoning to authorize a mixed-use development for 1,050 units.

The development known as South Britannia has requested the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) to create a flex zone within the property, including 89 townhomes or camping spots and tourist cabins.

The SLRD staff supported the proposal for a “flex zone” but gave the condition that the glamping spots would not be allowed to be turned into long-term occupancy homes.

Tiger Bay has also confirmed that the entire 1,000 units be multifamily development. There will be no single-family homes built.

The housing is expected to be townhomes or apartments that have up to six floors. The applicant has also implied adding triplexes or duplexes to the mix.

Tiger Bay also plans to build a Surf Park that will hire 60 to 70 employees, with a payroll of around $3.1 million (CAD).

The world-class surf facility will serve as an economic boost for the whole Sea to Sky Corridor while aligning with the region’s spirit. The facility will give more reasons to come back to the area throughout all seasons.

There were some concerns voiced by the SLRD Board members saying the planned development is too dense. The company responded that it has left 70 percent of its property as undeveloped green space.
