The severe weather that has led to widespread flooding in some areas of Queensland (Australia) continues to cause chaos for travelers and residents alike.
According to a report, campers at Imbil Island Reach Caravan Park had to be evacuated to Imbil Showgrounds on Saturday morning. Campers at Goomeri Caravan Park were relocated to higher grounds on Friday.
Kilkivan Hall is also helping guests staying at the Kilkivan Caravan Park caught out by the rising waters of the creek alongside Rossmore Rd.
Police have declared an exclusion zone for Maryborough within the Fraser Coast region, with people within the area urged to leave and relocate to higher grounds.
Unfortunately, the devastating weather has already brought tragic consequences.
A 22-year old man drowned in a vehicle when floodwaters swept him off on Friday in Kanigan. The search also continues for a 14-year old girl who has been swept away from her father in Gympie. The girl’s father was discovered to be safe and transported to a hospital.
A Bureau of Meteorology report indicated that the Mary River has finally peaked. The receding flood waters are now starting to show the full extent of the damage caused by the massive downpour.
There’s been massive flooding in towns such as Gympie and Tiaro and across all of the Fraser Coast.
The Courier-Mail also reported that the receding flood waters had caused extensive damage to infrastructure and roads in the region’s west, with areas of Burnett Highway being damaged and impassable.
