There’s not much or even no space in some of New Zealand‘s Central Otago camping grounds this weekend, a report said.

Clutha Gold Cottages owner Christine Bennenbroek stated that the last campsites at the Roxburgh camping area were booked by people celebrating the holiday on Thursday evening.

Otherwise, the four cottages, one home, and 19 sites were prebooked “well in advance”.

Regarding the effects of Covid-19, the last 19 months have been challenging for the campground. However, Bennenbroek also has a steady customer base.

”They often come and as they leave they say I’ll book again next year. I can’t complain,” she said.

Naseby Holiday Park owner Beth Connell shared that reservations for this weekend were in good shape following the cancellation of two events at the beginning of this season.

As a result, guests had to be spread between cottages, cabins, and sites.

In Bannockburn, Cairnmuir Motor Camp manager Martine McDowell said the site was full with all 50 sites, 11 cabins, and around 25 campground sites filled.

The report also mentioned Alexandra Holiday Park owner Janice Graham who said the number of campground guests was in line with the Labour Weekend crowds pre-Covid-19, which she said was “encouraging”.

It is the biggest camping area located in Central Otago and had about 400 campsites and 38 kinds of units. It was never overcrowded during this time of the year. However, the camping units this time around were mostly full.
