A clean-up day is planned for Lake Hayes on October 9th from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) announced on its website.

Lake Hayes is a small lake in the Wakatipu Basin in Central Otago, in New Zealand’s South Island

Volunteers who are interested in lending assistance are requested to gather at the Lake Hayes Pavilion and bring gloves, a water bottle, and food.

A part of the cleanup includes the removal of old kayaks and other boats believed to be abandoned along the lake’s shores. The owners of these boats are asked to take them away before Saturday so that they do not get removed.

QLDC will provide the rubbish skip through Waste Management to assist with the removal and collection of waste in the region.

“QLDC would like to thank David Penrose from New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty for his effort in organizing this clean-up operation,” the announcement read.
