The public in the area of Deep Creek Conservation Park (Australia) is warned of a scheduled burn held near the Stringybark Campground today, Monday, December 6.

If weather permits, approximately 1.6 hectares within the park will become the focal point of the fire, which is set to start at 11:30 am and will be completed by 5:30 pm.

This particular burn will “reduce fuel to protect the Stringybark campground to the south and Ridge Top Retreats accommodation to the west in the case of a bushfire,” National Parks and Wildlife Service (NWPS) said.

Park closures will remain in place throughout the burning, including roads leading to the Stringybark Campground and park entrance roads and the Forest Circuit Walk and Spring Wild Flower Walk.

An NWPS crew will remain on the site until it is safe to go and the local Country Fire Service volunteers have been invited to join in.

Smoke could be seen within the Tapanappa Road area, and smoke and fire may be seen during and after the burning.

If the weather changes, the prescribed burn could be canceled at the last minute.

The burn is part of the Mount Lofty Ranges Fire Co-operative prescribed burn program. It seeks to decrease the chance of the park being destroyed by a single fire.

Prescribed burns can reduce the intensity and spread of bushfires, decrease the amount of fuel loads, safeguard communities, and increase biodiversity.
