A caravan and car were involved in an accident on Queensland’s D’Aguilar Highway, a report said.

Emergency services arrived quickly at the crash site right outside Blackbutt yesterday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokeswoman stated that everyone involved was capable of removing themselves from the vehicle and paramedics were evaluating one patient.

Emergency services removed two gas canisters from the RV, and an investigation is ongoing.

As travel restrictions throughout Australia are eased, and as the Christmas holiday begins, there will likely be a rise in caravanners out on the roads.

There has also been a renewed effort by different authorities to remind all caravanners to remain safe.

In New South Wales, the Wagga Wagga City Council Road Safety Officer Emma Reynolds said the popularity of caravanning has increased 30 percent since the outbreak began and could lead to an increased potential for more unsafe vehicles to be on roads.

“Towing a caravan takes more concentration than driving your car as your vehicle becomes much heavier, wider, longer, and taller,” Reynolds said. “It’s harder to move and much harder to stop – so allow extra time and space for all maneuvers, including overtaking and turning corners.”

She stated that speed and load are typical causes of accidents. They usually start with a swaying car, resulting in the vehicle rolling over.
