The proprietors of Curlwaa Caravan Park in New South Wales, Australia did not consider themselves controversial when they said they would soon only accept guests who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
According to a report, Ric Young runs the park, which is situated on the banks of the Murray River, and said the decision to require the visitors to be vaccinated was based on safety.
He was not just concerned for the elderly patrons who often were in the park, but for his own father Brian.
Brian aged 78, lives in a house in the park. He says that he “has trouble breathing at the best of times” due to chronic lung disease.
“If I got COVID, that would be the end of that,” Brian said.
The park then announced its plan to enforce mandatory vaccinations on Facebook. The response was shocking.
The commenters were saying the policy was “illegal” and “discriminatory” amid furious abuse.
“My partner and I had been sitting in the same room and were shocked. Very surprised,” Young said.
Thankfully, over 1,000 positive comments were shared on the page.
Despite the stir, Young and his wife Margot decided to not remove the Facebook post.
