Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be carrying out a planned fire operation on Snapper Island National Park, August 24 as part of its fire fighting program, a report said.

Expected planned burns to last between 1-3 days.

Snapper Island NP campground is closed during this time. This planned burn is essential for managing natural ecosystems and protecting the community (life, property), by decreasing the risk of wildfire events.

The time of the burn will coincide with favorable weather conditions in order to meet environmental objectives. Snapper Island neighbors and visitors will be minimized from disturbances. However, smoke ash may blow over areas of Snapper Island and the surrounding area, which could cause temporary disturbances.

QPWS will provide vessels and personnel for the duration of the burn.
